Magazine Training

The total time it took to magazine train Betty was nine minutes. My criteria for determining whether or not Betty was magazine trained was for her to become familiar with the sound the operant box made when delivering reinforcement. During the process of Betty becoming magazine trained, I noticed that she would bite on the lever and sniff the light within the operant box, thinking that those responses were what elicited reinforcement. This was similar to the book and class discussion on magazine training because having the class discussion and reading the book prepared me for what to expect. Also, in class, we talked about how every rat will train at different paces, and our rat demonstrated this because, in the first, she was partially trained and knew when she heard the click to go to the small box of food. Then, she would hear the click and not pay attention, but shortly after, she knew when she heard the click, she would get reinforced. To my surprise, Betty could even press the lever nine times by herself on the first day.
